Local SEO Services Built for Google Maps and AI Search

Your local business deserves to be found wherever customers search: Google Maps, Google’s local pack, AI Overviews and ChatGPT recommendations. That is where more than 18 years of local SEO experience meets the AI search systems Rankmax has been building since 2023. We bring both disciplines together so you show up in the map pack, in Google's AI Overviews and in ChatGPT recommendations, not just one of the three.

Are Your Local Competitors Already Outranking You?

Many local businesses I speak with are already investing in SEO. They have a Google Business Profile. They've collected reviews. They've paid an agency for citation submissions. Yet their competitors still appear above them in the map pack, in AI assistant recommendations and in voice search results that customers now trust as much as a friend's referral.

Four patterns come up again and again on discovery calls.
Purple tick icon
Invisible in the Local Pack

When customers search for businesses like yours, three competitors appear in Google's local pack and yours sits below the fold. Strong reviews and a long trading history can't overcome a Google Business Profile that hasn't been optimised correctly, has inconsistent NAP data behind it or sits in a category Google doesn't trust your business in. When you're not visible at the moment of intent, customers choose someone else.

Purple tick icon
AI Assistants Recommend Your Competitors

When customers ask ChatGPT, Siri, Google Assistant or Perplexity for a local recommendation, your business may not appear at all. Voice and AI-driven queries are now a meaningful share of local discovery, and the answers AI tools give come from a different signal mix than the ten blue links. Most local SEO agencies still optimise only for the map pack, so businesses they manage win in Google but get skipped by ChatGPT and Apple Maps.

Purple tick icon
Citation Chaos Killing Trust Signals

Name, address and phone details drift over time. A new phone number goes on one platform but not the other 30. An address changes when you move, but Yellow Pages and TrueLocal still show the old one. The result is dozens of inconsistent listings that confuse search engines and weaken the trust signals Google uses for the local pack. Cleaning citations manually takes hours per location and requires ongoing monitoring across platforms most teams have never logged into.

Purple tick icon
Reviews Not Converting to Rankings

You can have hundreds of five-star reviews and still not move in the rankings. BrightLocal’s 2023 Local Consumer Review Survey found that 87% of consumers used Google to evaluate local businesses in 2022, and listing quality directly affects whether you appear in the local three-pack. Without a system for review velocity, response strategy and sentiment, positive feedback sits on your profile without doing the structural work that lifts your visibility.

Local SEO Services Built for AI-First Discovery

Your local business needs visibility in three places at once: Google’s local pack, the AI tools customers now ask for recommendations from, and the voice assistants through which buying decisions are increasingly made. We build for all three.
Purple tick icon
AI-Optimised Local Presence

We structure your business for discovery across Google's local results, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google's AI Overviews and voice assistants. The methodology behind 138 AI citations and $5.9M in attributed revenue for one B2B client over 17 months applies the same way to local search intent: structured data, entity clarity and authoritative content that AI tools can confidently cite. That case study is a national engagement, not a local one. What's portable is the methodology, not the keyword set.

Purple tick icon
Revenue Attribution from Local Search

We track which local searches and touchpoints drive phone calls, direction requests, form fills and purchases. Most agencies report ranking positions and stop there. We map local SEO activity back to revenue wherever the data allows it through GBP call tracking, GA4 referrals from Maps and conversions on location-targeted landing pages. The same attribution approach delivered an average ROI of 6,864% on the B2B engagement above.

Complete Local Management

Google Business Profile, citations, reviews, local content and technical local SEO are all handled end-to-end by our team. Your involvement is final approval, not execution. This matters more for local SEO than most agencies admit. GBP has become extremely sensitive to anything that looks like keyword spam, and any change Google flags as suspicious can take your profile offline or block it from being edited. Manual, careful execution by people who understand the platform isn't a nice-to-have. It's the only way to stay live.

Local SEO Proof, Built the Right Way

Local SEO results should be judged by local visibility, not generic traffic growth. That means tracking movement in the map pack, Google Business Profile calls, direction requests, geo-grid coverage, citation consistency, location-page conversions and AI assistant mentions for your actual service area.

Where local-specific client data is available, we surface those results clearly. Where it is not, we do not pretend national SEO wins are local SEO case studies. Instead, we show how the same Rankmax framework is adapted to local intent, local entities, suburb-level content, Google Business Profile optimisation and revenue attribution from local search.

WHAT WE DELIVER

What Your Local SEO Campaign Includes

Isometric graphic of local SEO Google Business Profile management with categories, ratings and photos.

Google Business Profile Management

Your Google Business Profile is the most important asset in your local SEO campaign and the most fragile. We optimise categories, attributes, services, products, photos, posts and Q&A, then maintain it manually with a careful hand.
The business name field is where we are most careful. Google has become extremely sensitive to keyword stuffing in the title, and if you try to add keywords there it can force you to verify the listing again or take it offline entirely. I've watched businesses lose weeks of local visibility because they tried to "optimise" their profile name with a keyword. Your GBP title should be your registered business name, full stop. Optimisation belongs in categories, descriptions, posts and reviews where Google expects to see it.
GBP isn't optional. BrightLocal's Local Consumer Review Survey found that 87% of consumers use Google to evaluate local businesses, and listing quality directly affects whether you appear in the local three-pack.

Local Citation Building

We establish consistent NAP (name, address, phone) across 40 to 60 authoritative directories. That volume consistently outperforms thousands of low-quality submissions. The audit identifies and corrects inconsistencies that are damaging your trust signals, then strategic submissions to industry-specific directories build local relevance Google can confirm.
A point that often gets missed: local citations are still valuable in the AI search era. Even no-follow citations can support AI visibility by reinforcing entity signals and local references that AI systems may use when deciding which businesses to mention. Citations aren't a maintenance line. They're an entity signal you build deliberately.
The submission process itself is something I rarely recommend doing in-house. The discovery work, knowing where competitors are listed and finding gaps in your profile, is genuinely useful. The submissions are time-consuming, repetitive, and directory platforms can take a long time to respond or occasionally won't process the submission at all, which means you need to follow up regularly to make sure listings actually go live. We use BrightLocal as our primary platform for submission and management, with Yext brought in when bulk multi-location work justifies it (50+ locations is roughly where Yext starts to make sense).

Review Generation Strategy

Review volume, velocity, recency and sentiment are powerful local ranking signals. We design a system for earning authentic reviews from satisfied customers, with response templates that maintain professional engagement on every platform. Review management isn't just reputation work. It builds the trust signals Google now weights heavily in the local pack and that AI tools use when selecting businesses to recommend.

Isometric graphic of local SEO local content creation with location-targeted pages and seasonal calendar.

Local Content Creation

Location-specific service pages, local blog content and area-targeted resources built for both traditional rankings and AI citation potential. Each piece is structured with entity clarity, schema markup and the question-answer formatting AI Overviews and ChatGPT pull from. The content calendar is aligned with seasonal trends and local events relevant to your business and your customers.

Isometric graphic of technical local SEO showing schema markup, mobile speed and a geo-grid heatmap.

Technical Local SEO

Local schema markup (LocalBusiness, Organisation, Service, FAQ) implemented across your website. Mobile optimisation, because most local searches happen on mobile, and Core Web Vitals work to keep customers on the page when they land.
Rank tracking is set up to capture local nuance. In dense urban environments such as CBDs, geo-grid tracking is critical because block-by-block visibility decides whether customers find you. Standard rank tracking misses this. You might rank well two streets over and be invisible at the address that matters for foot traffic. Apple Maps tracking is included where relevant, especially for businesses serving customers who rely on iOS devices and Apple Maps for local directions.

Isometric graphic of AI local visibility showing voice assistants and AI-recommended business cards.

AI Local Visibility

Your business is structured for recommendation by AI assistants and voice search. Content is formatted for featured snippets and the local-pack equivalents that appear in AI Overviews. Monitoring tracks AI citation growth across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot specifically for your local terms, because the platforms each pull from different signal mixes and what wins in Google AI Overviews doesn't necessarily win in Perplexity.

How We Work

Your Path Forward

1. Discovery & Audit

Your journey starts with a discovery call to understand your business, goals and current situation. An initial technical, content and competitive audit then identifies opportunities and gaps specific to your market.

2. Strategy Development

Based on audit findings, a custom AI SEO strategy is built with prioritised actions tailored to your goals. You'll see exactly what's planned for Google and AI platforms, why it matters & the expected outcomes before any work begins.

3. Execution & Growth

Your campaign is executed while you focus on your business. Monthly reporting tracks progress against your goals. Quarterly strategic reviews identify new opportunities to scale your results and compound your growth.

CLIENT SUCCESS STORIES

What Our Clients Say

Veterans First Consulting Logo

"We started with a single-page website that ranked for nothing but our brand name while our competitors dominated the organic search space and made us look less comprehensive by comparison. Within 11 months, the Rankmax team grew our site to over 100 high-quality pages and increased our keyword rankings from 15 to over 1,100. We now hold 425 page one positions and have overtaken all of our competitors to claim the #1 organic search position in our market. We've also secured 54 Google AI Overview citations, with ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot appearances gaining momentum. The team's detailed strategic thinking, mastery of organic and AI search, clear execution, reliable reporting and prompt communication have completely changed how we plan for growth. We've gone from unsure whether SEO could work for us to having complete certainty in our growth trajectory."

Frequently Asked Questions

Speak with the Founder
Can you help with negative reviews?

Yes. Campaign strategy includes review response frameworks for addressing negative feedback professionally and a process for encouraging satisfied customers to share their experiences. A consistent flow of genuine new reviews naturally pushes negative feedback further down the page and strengthens your overall rating over time. While removing legitimate reviews isn't possible, strategic responses demonstrate customer service quality and often convert critics into advocates.

Do you work with businesses outside Australia?

Yes. We're Melbourne-based and work primarily across the Asia-Pacific region and the West Coast of the United States. The fundamentals, Google Business Profile optimisation, citation building, review management and technical local SEO, apply across any English-speaking market. Campaign execution adapts to local directories and regional search behaviour specific to your country.

How do you track local SEO ROI?

Every campaign includes revenue attribution that connects local search visibility to actual business outcomes. We track phone calls from Google Business Profile, direction requests, website visits from local searches and conversions on landing pages tied to local intent. Unlike agencies reporting ranking positions alone, we map local SEO investment to revenue wherever the data allows. The same attribution approach has delivered ROI exceeding 13,900% for one B2C client on a national engagement.

How does local SEO integrate with my existing marketing?

Local SEO amplifies every other marketing channel. Customers who see your ads, social posts or referrals search for you afterwards, and local SEO ensures they find you prominently. It also captures bottom-funnel intent from people actively searching for services in your area. Reporting integrates with your existing analytics so local search contribution sits inside the broader marketing attribution picture.

How long does local SEO take to show results?

Many businesses start seeing measurable movement within 90 days, especially when they already have an established Google Business Profile. More meaningful ranking gains often take three to six months as trust signals build through consistent citation data, review velocity, content freshness and GBP activity. The fastest results usually come from businesses with existing profiles that need optimisation, rather than those starting from scratch. AI citation growth often follows traditional ranking improvements as AI platforms re-index updated content.

How many citations does my business need?

Quality matters more than quantity. A clean, consistent presence across 40 to 60 authoritative directories typically outperforms hundreds of low-quality submissions. Focus areas include the major platforms (Google, Apple Maps, Bing Places), industry-specific directories and local business associations. The citation audit identifies which platforms matter most for your industry and ensures NAP consistency across all of them. We use BrightLocal as our primary platform for ongoing submission and management, with Yext brought in when bulk multi-location work calls for it.

What's included in monthly local SEO services?

Monthly campaigns include Google Business Profile management, citation monitoring and updates, review generation support, local content creation, technical monitoring and performance reporting with revenue attribution. Content volume scales with your campaign tier and goals. Entry-level campaigns typically include around 12 pieces of content per month and higher tiers support 24 to 48 pieces. All work is done-for-you, with final approval the only requirement from your team.

What's the difference between local SEO and regular SEO?

Local SEO targets geographic searches and Google's local pack. The deliverables, GBP optimisation, citations, reviews, local content and geo-grid rank tracking, are specific to local intent. Regular SEO targets broader keyword rankings without geographic modifiers. Most businesses benefit from both. Local SEO drives immediate service-area customers while broader SEO builds topical authority. AI SEO strategies now apply to both surfaces.

What industries do you work with for local SEO?

Service-based businesses, professional services, retail locations, hospitality venues and multi-location enterprises. The methodology adapts to industry-specific directories and local search patterns. Whether you're a single-location tradesperson or a franchise with dozens of sites, the fundamental approach scales appropriately. Our case studies demonstrate results across B2B, B2C, eCommerce and SaaS engagements, and the frameworks apply across local SEO too.

What makes AI visibility important for local businesses?

Customers increasingly use AI assistants alongside Google when searching for local recommendations. When someone asks ChatGPT for "best plumber near me" or asks Siri for "coffee shops open now", AI systems pull from structured data and authoritative content rather than from ranking algorithms alone. Businesses optimised for AI discovery appear in those recommendations. Businesses still optimised only for the ten blue links don't. AI search use is growing quickly and most local SEO agencies still ignore it, which means there's a window to be the local business that wins both surfaces.
